Fierce Determination

The operating Dr was the very soul of kindness and consideration. He even quoted, “First, do no harm” as he poised above my awkwardly positioned body with a needle full of numbing agent.

And yet his task was dreadful to me. All his careful precision and determination to get good samples soothed me at some level. But the stubborn density in my breast called for more determination than gentleness.

And from his determination was born my own: I’m not doing this again.

Whatever led me into needing this precautionary procedure will now have its head cut off unceremoniously as soon as it shows its face to me. Becoming undomesticated can be like that.

No apologies given for my claiming the space that’s originally been mine to occupy before the shaming and shaping of social expectations mixed with my animal instincts of survival.

Wise Elders can be feared like that.

Someone you know may be needing a deeply embodied Wise Elder in their life. Do you?
